"Modeling animation of 3D characters"
This course is planned for secondary school students (ages ranging from 13
to 16) who have good spatial thinking and experience in creating three dimensional
objects by means of Discreet 3D Studio MAX (students should know the material
of the course M ). The main
aim of the course is to teach students to work with Discreet 3D Studio MAX and
Character Studio module for creating realistic nature environment, complex objects
(characters), their animations. All that is widely used nowadays for advertising,
games, visualizing of three dimensional objects that are being constructed,
and three dimensional interfaces as well.
PROGRAM
During the period of studying students should get knowledge on the following
topics:
- NURBS and their properties;
- surfaces and their properties, creating complex forms (characters), frame,
polygonal transformations;
- Mesh-transformations; combining primitives, Loft-transformations;
- NURBS instruments;
- Character Studio module and its parts;
- Biped skeleton and animating its movement;
- applying Biped skeleton to the character;
- creating characters by means of NURBS;
- creating a realistic scene of the sea bottom;
- combining characters and a scene;
During the period of studying students should get practical skills in the following
areas:
- NURBS types (Point Surface, CV Surface);
- peculiarities of working with NURBS;
- NURBS instruments (creating points, curves, surfaces);
- creating complex objects (a rose, a character, clothes);
- frame method of creation using Shapes, its advantages and shortcomings;
- polygonal Mesh transformations (smoothing, converting to NURBS);
- working with two blocks of Character Studio - biped, physique;
- Biped modules: Figure Mod, Footsteps Mod;
- Biped types of body movements: walk, run, jump, free motion;
- working with the block Physique (applying skeleton to the cover, searching
for lost vertexes, the amount of Physique`s influence on the cover; Bulge
transformations);
- step by step creating of the sea bottom (surface and the bottom, flora and
underwater stones, flooded objected, lighting settings, bubbles, plankton,
depth twilight, volume rays, caustics effect);
- merging objects into the scene and their further animation.
Length of the course is 98 hours
