"Introduction in network technologies and communications (communications in English)"

The course is planned for students who have worked with computers as experienced users, who have basic knowledge of English and who wish to get some knowledge on modern network technologies and also to learn to communicate properly in English in the Internet.
The main aim of the course is to introduce the principles of constructing local and global networks and principles of their functioning to students, to teach students to use software and instrumental means for information search and network communications (including creating a web-page in English). The knowledge and skills receive at this course will help students to solve more complicated tasks like network administration, elaboration of the WEB software and network databases, and also using Internet resources in English for professional growth and career.
When you are applying to this course you have to take a test.

PROGRAM

During the period of studying students should get knowledge on the following topics

  • network, network components;
  • client and server;
  • types of networks, protocols, resources in local networks;
  • global networks, the history of Internet;
  • the zone, the host, the distant server, the gate, the route;
  • Internet-chats;
  • search systems;
  • electronic translators and dictionaries;
  • mail and mail-protocol;
  • the structure of email messages in English;
  • safety in the Internet;
  • structure of sites, classification of sites, types of sites;
  • working with ICQ;
  • English slang in communications;
  • principles of IRC, working with IRC;
  • forums, news boards;
  • writing a resume in English;
  • introduction in HTML;
  • container, tag, attribute;
  • JavaScript functions;
  • cascade style sheets CSS;
  • FTP-protocol, transferring data by means of FTP;
  • rules of hosting a web-site on server;
  • banners, banner and rating networks.

During the period of studying students should get practical skills in the following areas:

  • information search in the Internet in English;
  • the form and the content of email messages;
  • mail clients' settings (The Bat, Outlook Express);
  • communication in local networks;
  • TCP/IP-protocol settings;
  • work with Web-browsers, browsers` settings;
  • using slang, smiles and standard phrases in English communications;
  • registration and communication in Internet-chats;
  • combining work in Internet-browsers and programs-translators;
  • creating an email account on English server, sending letters to each other;
  • communication by means of ICQ;
  • communication by means of MIRC;
  • filling out applications and participating in forums;
  • job search by means of Internet;
  • writing a resume;
  • creating a personal WEB-site in English;
  • meeting new people with the help of their own web-pages;
  • using HTML, JavaScript, CSS in WEB-page
  • hosting a site on a free server;
  • making and hosting banners.

Length of the course is 98 hours (one school year)
