"Introduction in three dimensional modeling "
This course is planned for secondary school students (ages ranging from 12
to 16) who have worked with computer as experienced users, who have good space
imagination and those who have a desire to learn modeling methods and technologies
for creating three dimensional objects and scenes with the help of specialized
applications like 3D Studio MAX.
The main aim of the course is to teach students main methods of creating objects
with the help of the system of projections, methods of modeling their surfaces,
methods of constructing and organizing three-dimensional space and plans using
different places for camera and light and various volume effects, and also to
make students familiar with principles of animation.
Studying at this course will help students to fulfil complicated tasks usual
for constructors, architects, designers of three-dimensional interfaces, and
also specialists in creating animated three-dimensional models for advertisements
and cinematography products.
When you are applying to this course you have to take a test.
PROGRAM
During the period of studying students should get knowledge on the following
topics:
- methods of constructing three dimensional objects with the help of projections;
- types of three dimensional objects and their characteristics;
- creating objects by changing and combining geometrical primitives;
- methods of precise construction of objects;
- modifiers and their parameters; stack of modifiers;
- modeling optical parameters of object materials;
- methods of creating motion, motion parameters;
- elements of space composition;
- light principles;
- modeling atmosphere effects;
- camera and its animation;
- using helpers;
- methods of space distortion;
- Video Post effects and adjusting them;
- System of objects, hierarchy of objects;
- Visualization, its parameters and special features;
During the period of studying students should get practical skills in
the following areas:
- types of objects in 3D Studio MAX (Standard Primitives, Shapes, Lights,
Cameras, Helpers, Space Warps, Compound, Particles, Patch Grids);
- instruments of doubling, aligning and transforming objects (Clone, Mirror,
Array, Align, Transform Type-in);
- using modifiers of different types and adjusting their sub-objects;
- editing on different levels;
- placing light sources in the scene, light types (Free, Direct, Target),
adjusting parameters for reaching realism in the scene;
- material types (Standard, Ray Trace, Multi/Sub-Object, Blend), procedure
textures, creating own materials;
- using 3D Studio MAX instruments for creating:
- nature objects (landscapes, water, trees, grass, fire, fog, atmospheric
precipitation, space);
- objects created by people (helicopter, space ship, fire place, furniture,
utensils),
- effects of objects interaction (a drop and water, wind and a flag, atmosphere
precipitation and a roof of a house, light,
- source and atmosphere, light source and a camera);
- adjusting animation with the help of graphs and keys of animation, filters
and controllers;
- visualization formats and adjusting them.
Length of the course is 98 hours (one school year)
