"Introduction in network technologies and communications"

The course is planned for students who have worked with computers as experienced users and who wish to get some knowledge on modern network technologies.
The main aim of the course is to introduce the principles of constructing local and global networks and principles of their functioning to students, to teach students to use software and instrumental means for information search and network communications (including creating web-pages). Studying at this course will help students to solve more complicated tasks like network administration, elaboration of the WEB software and network databases.

PROGRAM

During the period of studying students should get knowledge on the following topics:

  • network, network components;
  • client and server;
  • network structure, types of networks;
  • protocols;
  • resources in local networks;
  • global networks, history of global networks;
  • resources in the Internet;
  • the zone, the host, the distant server, the gate, the route;
  • working with HTTP-protocol;
  • search systems;
  • working with FTP-protocol;
  • mail and mail-protocol;
  • safety in the Internet;
  • principles of developing the informational structure of the site;
  • hypertext markup language HTML;
  • container, tag, attribute;
  • methods and functions of JavaScript;
  • CSS properties;
  • banner, banner network;
  • rating network;

During the period of studying students should get practical skills in the following areas:

  • developing and configuring a simple local network;
  • TCP/IP settings for local networks;
  • creating shared resources;
  • working with a browser, browser's settings;
  • search and advanced search in the search systems;
  • file operations on server by means of FTP-clients;
  • working with mail by means of HTTP-protocol;
  • working with mail by means of Mail-clients;
  • programs of interactive communication (inter relay chat);
  • programs for exchanging messages (ICQ, Odigo);
  • forums, news boards;
  • firewall settings;
  • creating a simple HTML-site;
  • formatting HTML-sites;
  • elements of Dynamic HTML;
  • placing a site on server;
  • creating a banner;

Length of the course is 98 hours (one school year)
